David Else’s 20HP Rolls-Royce, GKM30

1928 Rolls-Royce 20 Hp Chassis Number GKM30 Engine Number S2K

The body was built by Henry Binder of Paris.

This car is believed to have been on the Rolls-Royce stand at the 1928 Paris Auto Show. I would like to see a copy of the 1928/1929 Paris Auto Show catalogue which might list this car.

I would also like to learn more about Henry Binder and his Company.

It was bought by an American, Mr. Pardee Erdmann and shipped to America in 1929. He sold it in 1940 to Mr. Charles S. Shoup who was President of the American Rolls-Royce Owners’ Club 1951 to 1953. He sent me a photograph of it taken in 1942 when its colour was as it is now. Its original colour was dark blue.

The car was shipped to the UK in 1991 and I bought it in November 1992.

We have covered over 124,500 km. including the drive from Bergen to the North Cape and back. My wife has re-upholstered the car completely. I have re-built the engine and overhauled numerous mechanical parts.

The 20 hp Rolls-Royce was produced between 1922 and 1929 when 2,903 were made. It is capable of cruising at 45-50 mph. (72-80 km/h.) with an average fuel consumption of 18.5 mpg. (15.3 L/100 km.).

WANTED

To restore the car to its original appearance I need one pair of Grebel sidelights.
