Big Bore MKVI Engine B26N believed ex Sword collection

Click arrow to play. 7 July 2010

I have for disposal this superb engine. it has an excellent block and head, when so many are suffering badly from corrosion now and is currently with leading specialists Hurley Engine Services of Bath who are fitting full length liners, hardened exhaust valve seats, valve guides, re-facing the tappets, regrinding the crank and having Bassett Down Engineering balance it. There is no water pump or carburettors but a good flywheel with excellent starter ring gear and brand new clutch can be included as can a near perfect Distributor and a late S1 camshaft that will give a substantial boost in power. Norman Geeson is overhauling the crank damper because these must be perfect on the 4.5 litre engine if roar is to be avoided at the critical speed.

Work is proceeding slowly and the price will rise accordingly, eventually the whole thing will be repainted and dull nickel plated to concours standard and ready to install. www.richardjamesupholstery.com can even install it for anyone who's interested.

The price is subject to negotiation and depends on how much work has been done, but this is a rare opportunity to buy an exceptionally good engine for a very fair price indeed. I shall be happy to cover my costs.

Please email me Ashley@kda132.com for more details and photos. The engine can be inspected at Hurleys by prior arrangement.

Update 25 May 2010

All machining cleaning and pressure testing is complete and the engine is now being stove enamelled gloss black.

It's not unusual to see cars advertised as having a "rebuilt" engine, when the truth is rather different. Only by taking it to a specialist and spending well over £10,000 to bring it to as near new as possible, can an engine be described has having been properly rebuilt as this one will be. As assembly progresses so I will post more images with explanations so that those who've never done it can see how much work and expense is involved.

This will be a very powerful and smooth 4.5 Litre engine that will go in JTM50 if no one wants it. As the work progresses, the price will inevitably rise to cover my not inconsiderable costs.
