Most owners will be aware that until recent years R-R never published engine power outputs, rather they relied on suggesting that the output was adequate.

A number of owners nevertheless are interested in these BHP outputs. It should be remembered that one of the prime reasons for withholding such figures is because people tend to compare Apples with Pears and no where is that more true than engine outputs.

The attached graph shows the respective gross test bed outputs in late 1947 of the Silver Wraith and Bentley MkVI engines. Also it shows the output of the very rare pre-war Bentley Mk V as a direct comparison, tested under similar circumstances.

Note, in test bed exhaust dress form that the Silver Wraith engine out performs the Bentley Mark VI version up to nearly 3000 rpm. In this instance the Bentley engine is performing with the SU H4 small carburettors and RE 5157 camshaft, which restricted this engine for some time.
